November 2019 Tournament Results
Our Taekwondo Tournament Team has been hard at work during November in the quest for competition glory!
After achieving fantastic results at the World Championships at the start of the month, our fighters went on to win even more medals at the ITF Union Open English Cup, held in Bradford on 16th November.
Callum Edwards and Connor Murphy both competed in the black belt boys’ divisions, and they bagged 5 medals altogether: 2 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze!
The next day, the lads also took part in the GTI British Open Championships in Cheltenham, where they were joined by several of their Liverpool teammates. The team of 11 students won 14 medals: 8 gold, 4 silver & 2 bronze!
Well done also to Connor, Athika & Amelia, who didn’t make it into the medals; but they each did us proud with determined performances in some very tough divisions.

2019 World ITF Taekwondo Championships: Results
The 2019 World ITF Taekwondo Championships were held in Wishaw, Scotland, from 1st to 3rd November. Eight North West Spirit Taekwondo fighters took part, and we’re proud to say that every one of them won a medal. Not only that, but seven of them are coming home as World Champions!
Our 8 fighters won 19 medals: 11 gold, 5 silver and 3 bronze!
The overall GTI England team won 29 medals: 14 gold, 8 silver and 7 bronze.
Well done to the whole GTI team on their success! The atmosphere at the competition was fantastic and the GTI team spirit was incredible!
Massive thanks to all our coaches & supporters, including everyone who supported our team’s fundraising efforts in the run up to the event. It’s the teamwork that makes the dream work!

2019 GTI National Open: Results
The 2019 GTI National Open was held in Cheltenham on 22nd September. Seven of our North West Spirit Taekwondo fighters competed against some tough opposition, and they all did us proud!
Our 7 fighters won 9 medals: 6 gold and 3 bronze!
Special congratulations to brothers Owen and Olly Gargan, who both fought extremely well to take gold in their junior sparring divisions.

2019 BUTL UK Open: Results
Our fighters had a fantastic day at the BUTL UK Open on 6th July! We had 14 students taking part and every one of them did us proud with their performances. And everyone won a medal!
The final count was 25 medals: 10 gold, 7 silver & 8 bronze!
Thanks to all our coaches and supporters, who showed awesome team spirit, as always! And thank you to everyone at BUTL for organising such an enjoyable event.

June 2019 Tournament Results
Well done to our tournament team for another awesome medal haul in June!
At the ITC Open Championships on 23rd June, our team won 15 medals: 7 gold, 2 silver and 6 bronze! Three students even won double gold: Callum Edwards, Tzaneen Long and Kaden Springer. Fantastic!
At the Heart of England TKD Summer Championships on 30th June, our three fighters won 7 medals: 3 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze. Little Olly Gargan had a particularly successful day, winning FOUR medals – 2 gold and 2 bronze – all to himself!

£625 raised for Alder Hey!
On 9th June, several of our club members took part in the GTI ‘100 Rounds of Sparring’ charity event. Callum Edwards, Sandra Baldwin, Stef Davies and Olivia & James Connolly all completed 100 one-minute rounds of sparring. It was really tough & sweaty work, but they stuck it out for a very good cause!
The final count is now in, and our little club has raised an impressive £625 for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and Charity! Massive thanks to everyone who sponsored our team’s efforts. Your donations will help to fund Alder Hey’s life-saving medical equipment, research and facilities; as well as supporting activities and projects designed to improve the lives of patients.

April 2019 Black Belt Grading
We have the absolute pleasure of announcing the promotion of one of our junior students to the rank of Black Belt! CONGRATULATIONS to Joseph McGhee, 1st Dan!
10-year-old Joe has trained with us since 2014, and has trained especially hard over the last 6 months in preparation for the GTI Black Belt Grading on 14th April. We’re extremely pleased and proud that his hard work and determination have paid off!

At the ITC/GBTF Northern Open on 17th March, our team won 6 silver and 4 bronze medals. Then, at the ITF HQ Welsh National Championships on 30th March, our three junior fighters won 2 silver and 3 bronze medals.

2019 GMS XXI Open Championships: Results
The 2019 GMS XXI Open Championships were held on Sunday 3rd March in Motherwell, Scotland. Three North West Spirit students were in attendance, and all three did the club proud.
5-year-old Olly Gargan won a bronze medal in sparring, while big brother Owen took silver after a very close final round. Teammate Connor Murphy fought well in the junior black belt sparring category, but unfortunately missed out on the medals this time.
